PROJECT DETAILS

Alameda's Former Naval Air Station is currently undergoing conversion to civilian use.  Muller & Caulfield worked with the Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority (ARRA) for the redesign of Building #23, a W.W.II airplane hangar slated for renovation and conversion into an assembly plant for a manufacturer of electric cars.  Totaling approximately 65,000 square feet, Building 23 consists of a 40,000 sq. ft. open hangar flanked by two 2-story office/shop areas.  Offices were located on the second floor with a mix of shops and offices on the first floor.

Muller & Caulfield Architects worked closely with ARRA, The City of Alameda Engineering, Planning, Traffic, and Fire Prevention Agencies to create and address the scope of work for Building 23.  Plans for the building included architectural and engineering design of building and code upgrades, ADA upgrades, utility and mechanical system upgrades, fire protection upgrades, and interior renovations to convert the structure into an electrical car assembly plant.
