Ruth E. Knapp, AIA
Associate Architect

•• Ruth, who joined Muller & Caulfield Architects in 1989, finds value in the the ability of the architect to bring calm to a potentially chaotic process and help the client work through all the requirements a building has to meet-- the expectations of the owner, the public, codes and standards of practice, energy requirements, and historic building codes--enroute to a building design that is aesthetically pleasing, highly functional, and delightful. One example is the historic Oakland Plaza Building, which has received awards from the Oakland Heritage Alliance and the California Preservation Foundation.

Charles Bucher, Jr.

•• Charles has a strong interest in historic preservation, and recently completed his Master's in Vernacular Architecture for Oxford Brookes University in England. He is a steady worker and an articulate thinker who studied English before Architecture. He is working primarily on the Alameda County Fire Department Vehicle Maintenance Facility, and the Lake Merritt Pergola Renovation. In his spare time, he is commencing on a project to document "Ramshackle Hippie Houses" in California.

Katie Voit
Accounts

•• Katie has been holding the company together through bad times and good, and keeping all the books straight for Muller & Caulfield since 1997.  She has been doing this for Architects such as VBN for more years than she cares to publish. Before settling in California with her two daughters, she lived in Indonesia, South Africa, Geneva, and the East Coast.

•• Emily has grown comfortably in the Office Manager position. She graduated with a degree in English from Reed College in Portland, and has competed nationally in bicycle track and road racing.
